Nerf Pro Gelfire Uproar Review

After the debut of the Gelfire Mythic, Nerf paused any electronic/electric releases in favor of other blasters to fill in niches in the line. Shotgun? Check. Sniper rifle feel? Check. Jolt reskin? Check! And the list goes on.

Spring of 2024, however, sees the return of full-auto fire. The Gelfire Uproar boasts up to 150fps and 7 balls per second, all off of 8 AA batteries. With an MSRP half that of the Mythic, it might be a compelling option for cheap gel ball blasting. At least if you’re dipping your toes in the water and want something simple.

No Frills

The Uproar doesn’t have extra features. There’s a trigger, the usual safety nearby, and a hopper for ammo. That’s it. It’s a full-auto blaster without any real cycle control, besides your trigger finger. There’s nothing wrong with simple, though. If it works, it works!

The blaster uses a 400 round hopper, and comes with 10,000 rounds for you to hydrate and fire. There’s no stock to speak of, though there is a large foregrip covering the battery tray. The blaster is clearly meant for “spray and pray”. There’s a Rival/Hyper/Nerf 14+ rail up front, though the hopper obstructs the view when firing. It’s an odd place for a rail, especially when we still have no attachments for holding extra hoppers, or even an angled adapter to allow the mounting of useful sights.

If you have the Mythic hoppers, they’re compatible with the Uproar.

It’s anecdotal, but the Uproar seems to feed more consistently out of the box than the Mythic did. Whether that’s due to the hopper shape or the larger cone leading down to the breech is unknown. In any case, It works!

Performance

The Uproar definitely averaged 7 rounds per minute on fresh AA batteries. As for the fps claims…it definitely had shots reaching 150fps or above. On average, however, I was hitting 136fps. It’s still acceptable, but hitting the listed fps mark consistently is obviously worth a higher score.

Internals

The Uproar uses a specific motor – I’m not sure what the ideal setup would be in this regard, but I thought I’d include the stamped info for future reference.

The powertrain for the blaster follows the same pattern as other gel blasters in this class. There is a ratcheting mechanism on the first gear connecting to the motor, which keeps the mechanism from decompressing and trying to turn all the gears (and motor) backwards.

Final Thoughts

As far as beginner gel ball blasters go, the Nerf Pro Gelfire Uproar is quite capable. Eight AA batteries, even if they’re disposable, are a cheap fee for accessing this play space. More importantly, the blaster seems to have less issues with feeding than the Mythic. So if a name brand entry is what you want, the Uproar will do the job!
