Buzz Bee Air Warriors Twist Fury Review

It isn’t every day that a hobby design ends up on store shelves! A local hobbyist, Taffy, designed the Skewer, and after a few connections were made, Buzz Bee licensed the design for sale in stores. For now, it’s only at Dollar General in the US, so availability is highly dependent on both DG’s distribution and the ability of individual stores to actually turn over product on shelves. But if you find one, it’s hard to deny the fun you have operating one – or the potential of the blaster to do even more in the right hands!

Adult Sized?

Continuing one of Buzz Bee’s better recent trends, the Twist Fury is sized large enough for adult hands to use comfortably! Of course it’s a product for ages 8+, but with the larger number of adults grabbing toys, being able to operate them comfortably is nice.

The operation of the blaster is simple: pull back on the T-prime handle to both compress the plunger spring and open the breech for loading a dart. Then, push the handle back in to close the breech. Once you’ve done that, a safety mechanism inside unlocks, allowing you to pull the trigger and fire the blaster. All the main guts are in a straight line, with the plunger rod coaxially mounted on a center rod – it’s literally skewered. The windows to the clear plunger tube show off the mechanism quite well.

The blaster used full-length darts, and comes with some of Buzz Bee’s new Accublast darts as well as a flip-clip. If you have other such magazines from Buzz Bee, you can connect them to make reloading faster, or even to connect blasters. See the video farther down!

The aiming sights are…bare bones and fat, really just consisting of the end of the barrel and the top rail. That rail is compatible with previous Buzz Bee aiming attachments, though.

The blaster creaks a little bit in handling, but otherwise feels quite sturdy. Buzz Bee clearly spent a lot of time making this relatively boxy blaster, and it’s a lot of plastic for $15.

Gameplay and Performance

Like I said, if you can connect the magazines, why not connect blasters, too? It’s certainly not what they had in mind…but if Xshot can have their insanity series, Buzz Bee can at least do this!

The T-pull priming mechanism is a bit slower and more deliberate than slides and pump action, but it does the job, and it makes you feel like you’re actually putting the work into aiming and not just spamming darts. Two darts per second is totally reasonable out of this blaster.

As for dart velocity, 80fps was my average, without much variance.

Internals and Modification

This is where the Twist Fury’s DNA really shows. That’s a huge plunger tube, and there’s a lot of space for spring replacements or additions. Kits have already been designed and put online to adapt the Twist Fury to short darts. (3D printing files) (Order printed parts). So if you never heard of the Skewer until now, you can basically have one for a store-bought blaster plus a bit more in parts.

Final Opinion

I love the Buzz Bee Twist Fury. It’s a great adaptation of Taffy’s original design, made for kids but with so much potential waiting to be unlocked. Finding it ON a shelf may take hitting more than one Dollar General. But once you do, it’s a blast to use, and hard to put down.
