Zuru Xshot Blastercorn Review
December 4, 2024I’ll be honest – I have no idea who at Zuru’s marketing team looked at their blaster line and decided that what it needed most was a unicorn. But they deserve a raise.
It’s completely out of place compared with what surrounds it on the shelf, but it looks great, has all the cute effects you’d want (wings flapping on the trigger pull!), and is a great blaster even if you ignore the trappings. If there’s a blaster that screams stockings stuffer, it’s this one.
The Deadly Unicorn!
To be fair, regardless of the more recent Lisa Frank styling and treatment, unicorns of legend are a bit more unfriendly. Nevertheless, we can enjoy our fantasy creatures and make them into blasters!
The Blastercorn is a simple blaster in function, with a pullback handle and a single barrel. Load the dart, pull back, and fire. You fire darts as fast as you can load the blaster.
In addition, the wings on the sides of the blaster are actually movable. It’s not by a huge amount, but it’s noticeable. The wings are linked to the trigger pull, so you could run around flapping the wings and flying your blaster without caring to load it or use it as a blaster. Like I, a 35yo man, would ever do such a thing!
Wait, my wife is disputing that assertion? Crap.
In any case, it’s a fun blaster, whether you actually use it as a blaster.
Performance and Internals
The Blastercorn averaged 87fps in my testing, and with a supply of darts handy, one dart per second was easy to achieve. I’ve used the blaster sporadically in different high fps Nerf wars and HvZ settings – naturally it’s not ideal for where I play, but it works perfectly fine! Just line up your shots.
As for the internals, it’s nothing new. The plunger head can be unscrewed if you want to swap springs, and the air restrictor can be removed if you want to change barrels. If you do, though, I’d advise using epoxy putty or something else to reinforce the spring rest.
How does the blaster taste? The dog thinks it’s fine.
Should I Get One?
Yes. It’s inexpensive, effective, and fun. Plus, the Blastercorn is just plain silly and entertaining!
