Dart Zone Announces the Omnia!

The announcement podcast appeared overnight, with news of both a new blaster and its upcoming appearance at Foamcon/Endwar. Sadly, I can’t attend that event due to previous plans. But the podcast still gives all the fun details, so here we go!

Dart Zone Max Goes Flywheeler

The Omnia is the second “pro-level” blaster from Dart Zone, after the DZP Mk3. That one, while a personal favorite, did have a few quirks. It ran on 8 AA batteries (though there was an XT60 connecter internally for the use of battery packs). The blaster uniquely switched between single shot (which was manually done) and full auto (which physically disconnected the trigger from the firing mechanism). Finally, it was also designed to work for both full length and half length darts (this may or not be a plus for everyone).

In contrast, the Omnia can do singe shot, three round burst, or full auto! Apparently, with a fresh battery, it can do up to 8 darts per second, so mag dumping is a distinct possibility. The blaster only fires short darts. And on the battery front, it ships with a lithium-ion battery pack! Specifically, it uses a 2s battery pack – the same one that gets used in the Pulsar Pro and Hydrax gel ball blasters. I’m not the biggest gel ball person, but if that investment means Dart Zone can more cheaply port things like battery packs over to the dart blasting side of things, then I’m happy for it!

The claimed 150 fps with short darts is nothing to sneeze at, and the continuing trend to use Picatinny rails, Nstrike stock attachments, and buffer tube stocks is quite nice. Some things like the angular shape and the magazine release paddle seem odd, but I’ll hold judgement until I can actually use one. In addition, I really want to have one as a backup blaster for HvZ, but that requires downtuning. Different battery chemistry? Extensive mods? Both? Who knows. But if Dart Zone can get me one, I have a game I can test it at in July!

Expect the blaster (with attachments, darts, and two magazines) to cost $90 online – more information coming soon!
